We know that the views surrounding our bed and breakfast are fantastic and we hope you share our views – however why stop at the views when you chose from a variety of great activities to enjoy. You decide what you want – it could be a day at the races, shopping and a spa, or if looking for something a little more challenging or adventurous have a look at the activities we currently offer. All are subject to availability – so booking early is essential. We think we can offer you the just the thing when you stay with us.

At Coed Llandegla Forest in North Wales located about 20 minutes drive from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast. With over 44 km of purpose-built mountain bike trails, people travel from all over the country to ride there. And top-class trails demand a top-class centre. Mountain bike skills courses for all are on offer from beginner to expert.

White Water Rafting

This Adventurous White Water Rafting trip covers a distance of 4km. You will experience a range of thrills and spills on rapids. This Rafting journey is ideal for a range of groups, whether you’re a family on an activity break, a corporate company wanting to build on your team’s skills or a hen or stag party looking for an unforgettable white water experience.

The river Dee boasts some spectacular scenery as it is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty; it also contains a large diversity of wildlife. This trip is suitable for all ages and abilities!

Paintballing

Our unique venue is situated in a decommissioned cold war military base! With a transfer time from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast of approximately 10 minutes. With themed game zones such as WW1 trenches, Graveyards and Post Apocolyptic ruins; the games don’t get boring!

Outpost Paintball is a brand new paintball experience close to Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast and caters for ages 11 and over. Based in a Cold War Anti-Aircraft Artillery installation built to protect Chester, Wrexham, Wirral and Liverpool from attack by nuclear bombers. Owned and run by paintballers, the site has been built with a new approach to paintball, with over 10 complex scenario game zones including WW1 themed trenches, the graveyard and a post-apocalyptic ‘ruins’ zone. They also have pro baller tournament fields for tournament paintball team training alongside their video game inspired scenarios.

The Archery Experience

You are offered an introduction to archery with some good quality gear and instruction to get you on the right tracks. You can have an evening or half a day tailored to suit your needs.

Horse Riding

Why not try horse riding at a fully approved BHS Livery and Riding Centre set in the gorgeous countryside of North Wales – just a 5-minute drive from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast. They can offer something for everyone from the novice rider who is looking to start their horse riding journey to the experienced competition riders – they have ponies and horses suitable for all abilities, ages and sizes.

With fantastic bridle paths and hacking right on our doorstep, so can offer varied hacks for all types and levels. All hacks are accompanied by an experienced leader who can let you know all about the hack you choose. Sessions are tailored to your requirements and you will be consulted with to make sure you are achieving the aims you wish to set.

Climbing and Abseiling

Abseiling is the technique used to descend a cliff-face, if you fancy climbing and abseiling we will transfer you to a local pot hole quarry just a 20-minute transfer time from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast. Abseiling is usually combined with rock climbing but if you only want to abseil then that's fine. Rock climbing is suitable for a variety of ages; you don't need any experience, they can help you develop your skills so you can become confident in the use of safety equipment and techniques. Our climbing and abseiling sessions are extremely practical and informal.

River Tubing

This is a unique outdoor activity for any white water enthusiast. White Water Tubing is an incredible way to explore the Beautiful Dee valley. The trip covers a distance of 3km. You will come face to face with some of the largest rapids on the river and float through some of the UK's most scenic countryside.

The river Dee boasts some spectacular scenery as it is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty; it also contains a large diversity of wildlife. This trip is suitable for all ages and abilities!

Why not try this half day activity? This trip covers a distance of 3km and includes some classic welsh rapids. You will find yourself working together to navigate your way down rapids such as Serpents tail, Boulder blast and Motor rapid.

Bush/Craft Survival Skills

Bush craft is a huge subject depending on where you are on the planet, when you're there and what you have with you. There are a number of bespoke courses based on the land at Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast half day, full day and overnighters.

Bush craft/survival skills at Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast, in the tipi if weather is interesting. Learn the basic elements, food, water, fire and shelter – why not eat what you have foraged in the evening at ‘Charlie’s Place’ our covered outdoor eating area?

Also available are corporate days and overnighters providing great workshops designed to your requirements, whether it’s a team work focus or just a good fun day out learning and bonding.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

We are proud to be able to offer fishing at Llandegla Fishery located about 15 minutes’ drive from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast, you can choose from Fly Fishing or Course Fishing and you will be amongst breath-taking surroundings in an area of outstanding beauty on Llandegla Moors.

Llandegla Fishery is ideally situated for enjoying the outdoors and nature; you will also enjoy seeing a wealth of nature on their on-site lakes, where the islands they have created make a safe habitat for water-loving birds and wildlife.

There an RSPB centre within the Coed Llandegla forest and waymarked nature walks around the forest reservoir – home to black grouse. The AONB Clwydian hills are close by with a wealth of moorland birds and wildlife. Llandegla Fishery have a selection of well stocked lakes suitable for all levels of fisherman – from family fun to the serious fisherman.

Fly Fishing

Fly fishing for trout is very popular at Llandegla Fishery, especially throughout the winter months. All of their lakes are spring fed by the original Alyn Beck which runs from Llandegla Moor at the top of our fishery and eventually becomes the River Alyn running through Loggerheads, Mold and onwards.

Two trout pools stocked with Rainbow, Brown, Tiger and Gold Trout, & Blue Trout up to 15lb. They also have a natural stock of stunning Rudd that are more than happy to take a dry fly, along with a natural stock of Rudd.

Coarse Fishing

Llandegla Fisheries have two mixed species coarse fishing lakes where they allow baited-hook sport fishing; stocked with Mirror and Common Carp to 15lb, Barbel, Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Crucian Caru and Chub. We have a further worm fishing lake.

Cookery School Experience

We are passionate about good food at Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast so if you fancy spending the day at one of the regions fantastic cookery schools along with Brian Mellor an award winning Master Chef of Great Britain, former Head Chef at BBC and Executive Chef at Granada TV. Brian has been involved in almost everything to do with food from cooking privately for celebrities and royalty to overseeing dozens of chefs in busy restaurants. Brian is passionate about passing on skills and opened Harthill Cookery School that scooped Highly Commended Award for Best Small Cookery School UK 2013. A place for learning, meeting artisans and discovering tastes. It is ideal for leisure cookery classes during weekends, team-building activities during the week and development days for chefs.

Full Day Cookery Courses

These cookery courses are meant to allow time to go through a few more cooking techniques, not necessarily more advanced, but definitely more varied. Some examples: a patisserie day, a pasta day, Italian, Spanish or Indian cookery courses, advanced bread making or how to get confident in the kitchen (Kitchen Confidence), how to prepare delicious dinners or to make a perfect menu for Christmas. At the end of these courses, you usually sit down and enjoy your meal. All ingredients and equipment are included.

Why not spend the day learning new skills then bringing your carefully crafted produce back to eat at Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast? We will gladly chill your drinks for you. We don’t have a licence to sell alcohol, so why not bring your own. If the weather is fine, you can also use our outdoor undercover eating and BBQ area “Charlie’s Place”.

Foraging & Gardening Courses, Evening Demonstrations

Finding 'food for free' in the edges of fields and woodland is an outdoor activity enjoyed by more and more people. It encompasses a 2-3 hour walk where you’ll be able to identify many species that you will cook at the cookery school on your return.

Half Day Cookery Courses

Usually just 4 hours, 10:00-14:00, these cookery courses tend to focus on a certain skill and its basics such as baking bread, knife skills, puddings or making a box of chocolates.

Evening Cookery Classes

Kitchen Bites is a special series of evening classes at our school in Cheshire for those in a hurry who still want to learn a couple of cooking skills. These cooking sessions will show you the first basic steps in the kitchen in 3 main areas: meat, fish and dough. If you’d like to continue your culinary journey with us, you can choose from the half or full day courses on your favourite topic.

Cookery Workshops

We are proud to have linked up with a local dedicated cook shop and cookery school based in Oswestry – which is about a 30-minute transfer time from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast.

The Cookery Workshop at Upstairs Downstairs offers a range of different cookery lessons each month in our cookery school located in the back of our shop. All equipment and ingredients will be provided in each lesson.

The workshops are tailored to individual groups wants and needs; tell us what you want to do and we will arrange a tailor made course specifically for you. The length of the workshops can either be half or a whole day. Some examples are listed below, so that you can think about what you would like us to put together.

  • Pasta from Scratch and Advanced Pasta
  • Breads
  • Beer and BBQ
  • Tapas
  • Sweet and Savoury Pastry
  • Feast of Fish
  • Knife Skills

If you would like to try canoeing, there are a few options available – just a 20-minute transfer time from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast you could be canoeing in an Open Canoe over Thomas Telford’s fantastic piece of engineering 127 ft. above the River Dee the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct or along the Llangollen Canal.

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

On 27 June 2009, UNESCO made this masterpiece of civil engineering a World Heritage Site - along with 11 miles of canal including Chirk Aqueduct and the Horseshoe Falls at Llantysilio, near Llangollen. Now it's officially one of the greatest heritage sites in the world, and on a par with places like the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal and the Acropolis. When you see it, you'll see something that was touched by genius. Because Telford was a true visionary.

Canoeing on the river Dee or on the Llangollen Canal at the world heritage site

Canoeing, either on the river Dee, a beautiful quiet country river, or on the Llangollen Canal at the world heritage site.

The River Dee runs through Llangollen and offers canoeing for all levels of expertise. The duration of your time spent on the water can vary but the memories last forever.

More experienced canoeists can have their session tailored to their skill level and individual requirements.

A Day at the Races

We will gladly arrange race tickets, transport to and from the races, with lunch on the way. Fixture dates vary from racecourse to racecourse, so there are some restrictions on dates you can choose if you wish to have a day at the races.

Bangor on Dee

Bangor on Dee Racecourse is set in glorious countryside alongside the ancient River Dee; the course takes its name from the historic and picturesque village of Bangor-on-Dee and enjoys breath-taking views of the surrounding Welsh Hills.

Chester

Chester is the oldest racecourse in the UK and possibly the world, the first recorded race was held on February 9th 1539. Over £10m has been invested in the course over recent years including the development of the Pavilion facility, Restaurant 1539 and Paddock redevelopment.

Plas Teg - Haunted House

We can arrange a visit to a house that is believed to have many ghosts, situated about 5 minutes drive from Hope Mountain Bed and Breakfast.

The property dates from 1610 and is restored to its present condition by Cornelia Bayley; Plas Teg exudes atmosphere and charm, it is rich in history and mystery, the house is furnished with period fixtures and furniture and is believed to have many ghosts.

The Aballu Artisan Chocolatier’

Following on from our passion about great food, what about a workshop with our local Welsh Artisan Chocolatier Jo Edwards?

We can offer chocolate workshops for both children and adults, whether you design and decorate your own chocolate pizza and lollipops or your own chocolate truffles or truckles - once finished, they’ll be packed and beautifully wrapped, ready to take home.

For a more in-depth course we can offer a Chocolate Training Adventure Suitable for ages 16+

The class starts with a lively and fun introduction to the story of chocolate, its history, its cultivation and its amazing journey from bean to bar. You’ll also get the chance to see and touch the magical bean in its raw format. Next, you will learn about handling chocolate, what's important when you're cooking with chocolate and making chocolates. Then we’ll guide you through a chocolate tasting where you will get the chance to try the various varieties of chocolate and learn how to pick up on the differing flavours. Before you know it, you’ll be a chocolate connoisseur!

Firstly, we’ll show you how it’s done and then we'll hand it over to you. You’ll be crafting your very own chocolate cocoa po before turning our attention to truffles. Then it’s over to you to handcraft your very own selection of truffles. Once finished, the truffles will be packed into your cocoa pod, and beautifully wrapped ready to take home.

Body and Stand Up Paddle Boarding

This thrilling new water sport takes place on the wild white water rapids of the River Dee, in Llangollen, North Wales.

After a short safety brief get ready to experience an adventure of a life time! Lay on your boat and await the incredible rush as you blast through rapids and features that the wonders of white water have to offer. With the use of webbed gloves you'll propel yourself around the twists, turns and waves of the water. It's a fantastic group activity for family and friends to enjoy.

We also offer a gentle flat water experience along the world heritage site, the Llangollen canal.
